Stuart C. Freedman specializes in Organizational Behavior, and is currently Chair of the Management department. In addition to his service as Chair, Professor Freedman’s other administrative responsibilities have included M.B.A. Program Director, Undergraduate Program Director and, prior to its relocation, Acting Director of the University's Small Business Development Center. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Dr. Freedman was a faculty member at Brock University in St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada.His most recent work, published as a book chapter, addresses both conceptual and applied communication issues in online education. He holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University.

Joan Crooker is a visiting lecturer in the R.J. Manning School of Business Marketing Group. Prior to joining UMass Lowell in 2008, Ms. Crooker worked for over 25 years in marketing services, technology and internet companies. She has held executive management and marketing positions with Fortune 500 companies including BBN, Prime Computer and Harte-Hanks, Inc. Prior to joining University of Massachusetts Lowell, Ms. Crooker taught marketing courses at Northeastern University and Lasell College (graduate level). Ms. Crooker is a native of New England and holds a BA, MS, and M.B.A. from Boston College.

Dr. Thomas Sloan is an Associate Professor in the Robert J. Manning School of Business at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He received a B.B.A. degree from the University of Texas at Austin and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. Previously, he taught at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. Prior to his graduate studies, he worked as a production manager for Frito-Lay, Inc. Dr. Sloan is a member of several professional organizations including the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, the Production and Operations Management Society, the Decision Sciences Institute, and APICS—The Association for Operations Management.

Mr. Ashwin Mehta , has founded and operated several of his own computer/software businesses. Prior to that, he has held executive positions with Groupe Bull (France) and Honeywell Information Systems. Mr.Mehta has BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Industrial Engineering, and has also completed management and advanced directors development (eMBA) programs. He has taught strategic management, entrepreneurship, Global Enterprise & Competition, Strategic Outsourcing and Management Information Systems.

Dr. Yash R. Puri is Professor of Finance and International Business in the Robert J. Manning School of Business at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where his focus is on corporate financial strategy. Yash is also a cofounder, Executive Vice President, and Chief Financial Officer of Magnolia Optical Technologies, Inc., a privately-held company and Magnolia Solar, Inc., a publicly traded company. Previously, Yash was the first Vice President of Finance at GT Equipment Technologies, a high technology semiconductor and photovoltaic equipment manufacturer, while on leave of absence from the University. Yash holds a B.S. in Physics, a M.S. in Solid State Physics, and a M.B.A. from the University of Delhi, where he won the gold medal for being the best student in the Faculty of Management Studies. He also holds a M.B.A. in Finance and a D.B.A. in International Business from Indiana University, Bloomington. He has served on several corporate boards.

Stefanie Tate holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Wake Forest University and a PhD in Accounting from Michigan State University. Before entering the PhD program, she worked for KPMG Peat Marwick, LLP in Washington, DC for six years. During this period she advanced to manager in the public service practice, having performed financial statement and compliance audits of mostly non-profit and government clients. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Assistant Professor of Management

Dr. Oztekin holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Yildiz Technical University (Turkey), an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Fatih University (Turkey), and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering & Management from Oklahoma State University. Prior to joining UMass Lowell, he worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at Oklahoma State University. Between 2008 and 2010, he served as the president of American Society for Quality student chapter at Oklahoma State University.

Professor Chen holds an M.B.A. from Texas Tech University and a Ph.D. in Information Systems from University of Texas at Arlington. Before joining UMass Lowell, Dr. Chen taught at Southeastern Louisiana University and National Chung Cheng University. Prior to his teaching career, Professor Chen worked as a systems analyst and programmer for PepsiCo, Inc. He also has served as consultant to train corporate managers. Professor Chen has received several outstanding teacher recognitions from the Student Government Association of UMass Lowell. He also received the Excellent Teaching Award from the College of Management of National Chung Cheng University and the Best Graduate Teaching Performance Award from the College of Business Administration of University of Texas at Arlington.

Professor Karim holds a B.Com. (Hons) and M.Com. in Accounting from the University of Dhaka, an M.S. in Accounting from Eastern Michigan University and a D.B.A. in Accounting from Mississippi State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant. He has published over 60 articles in various refereed journals, and his expertise include Financial Accounting, market based accounting, behavioral accounting, judgment decision making, accounting education, SOX compliance, impact of regulatory changes on accounting numbers, management accounting, and cost management. Most recently he was teaching at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Dr. Carter holds a D.B.A. from Kent State University, and M.B.A. from the University of Akron, and a B.S. from Penn State University. During the last fifteen years, over 5,000 students were enrolled in his classes. Professor Carter's service to the University has included membership on numerous University, College, and Accounting Department committees, and chairmanship of the Accounting Department for six years. Professor Carter has business experience with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. He also consulted with small businesses in establishing financial and cost accounting systems.

He also holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Missouri – Columbia and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter from CFA Institute. He has five years of industry experience and nine years of academic experience. His teaching and research focuses on Corporate Finance area. He has published fourteen articles in refereed journals including Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Journal of Emerging Markets, Applied Financial Economics, International Journal of Economics and Finance, and Review of Business, among others.

Professor Li holds an MBA from the University of New Hampshire and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. His research focuses on data mining, information privacy and information economics. He has received funding for his research from National Institute of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF). Prior to joining UMass Lowell, Professor Li taught at the University of Texas at Dallas. In addition, he had worked in industry for 10 years as an engineer, an analyst and a manager.
